Open Hearts: A Ministry for Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities
Open Hearts is designed to help integrate a person with developmental or intellectual disabilities into the life of the parish. This ministry provides a faith filled and loving place for children and adults with disabilities and their families. The environment offers opportunities to be in community through monthly gatherings and activities. We provide a path of friendship and community for the person and their families.
We offer many opportunities for involvement in the parish....
Community of Faith and Light–Open Hearts ministry usually meets on the 3rd Sunday of the month from 1:00pm-3:00pm. This monthly gathering is a time for fellowship and spiritual enrichment for the entire family. We meet for a meal, sharing, festivities, and prayer. Members of the St. Catherine's community are there as friends to simply be a part of the community as a participant like the core member and their family.
To sign up to join our Open Hearts Ministry, please email Pam Newmann in the Religious Education Office.

Faith Formation and Sacramental Preparation – We have developed faith formation and sacramental preparation for people with special needs. Working with the Faith Formation office, we work with the parents and caregivers by providing resources for education at home and some 1 on 1 time. No person is denied sacraments based on a disability. We work with everyone based on their abilities and develop understanding to their individual levels.
Volunteer Needs for Open Hearts:
We also have a need for individuals who would like to help out by being an RE Buddy to children that have a disability in the regular RE classrooms. All volunteers must be EIM certified. For more information contact the Community Ministry Office.
